A radical new initiative is giving Paisley people the chance to find out if they are at risk of heart disease.
Local health project Have a Heart Paisley is offering a free heart health check to every 45-60 year old in the town.
Buddies can choose where they’d like their check to take place - at a local community venue, a GP surgery or even in their own home.

“ By asking some simple questions and taking a few measurements, such as blood pressure, we can quickly work out if someone is at risk of developing heart disease,” said Project Manager Marjorie Gaughan. “ We can then advise on what needs to be done to reduce that risk.”
A campaign is currently underway to persuade as many people as possible to take up this offer.
“ We are targeting this particular age group because it has a higher risk of developing heart disease, but the good news is that this can be avoided by taking some fairly simple steps. That’s why it’s so important for people to take just a little time out of their day to have this check. We want to reach people before heart disease sets in,” said Marjorie.
Over the next few months, letters will be going out to Paisley’s 45-60 year olds, inviting them to take part in the health check initiative.
“We’d love to see as many people as possible take up this offer,” said Marjorie. “Not only could this have a significant impact on the health of the people of Paisley, it’s also a real opportunity for the town to lead the way for the rest of Scotland in the fight against heart disease.”
