Lack of Physical Activity
'Physical activity' is a general term to describe any movement that uses up energy. It can be anything from walking, gardening or housework to dancing and sports.

A lack of physical activity has now been recognised as one of the three main causes of heart disease. In fact, with two thirds of the Scottish adult population needing to increase their level of activity, it is the most common risk factor for heart disease in the country today.

Have a Heart Paisley is continually seeking to identify and develop new and innovative ways of improving physical activity levels in Paisley.

Tips on Active Living

For good health, we should all be trying to build up to 30 minutes of activity each day. This is accumulative activity, so it can be 10 minutes here and 5 minutes there. Building physical activity into your daily routine is a great way to start and doesn't require a huge amount of extra time. Take a look at your day and see how quickly the 30 minutes add up!

Use the stairs instead of the lift
Park further away or get off the bus early and walk part of the way to the shops or work
Play with the children!
Do some work in the garden
Dance around to your favourite song
Take the dog for a walk

Once you start feeling a bit fitter, why not try a new activity such as swimming, dancing or cycling?
